Intel’s Ohio One: Construction Timeline Update

20 Mar 2025

Intel’s ambitious $28 billion investment in Ohio One, its massive semiconductor manufacturing campus in New Albany, is moving forward—though at a slightly adjusted pace. The company recently provided an update on construction progress, key milestones, and new expected completion dates.

Where Things Stand

Since breaking ground in 2022, the Ohio One site has been a hub of activity. Over 6.4 million hours of labor have gone into the project, with crews installing underground pipes, pouring over 200,000 cubic yards of concrete, and assembling sub-utility trenches (SUTs). The project has also reached a major structural milestone—Intel has officially gone vertical on its first two semiconductor fabrication plants, known as Mod 1 and Mod 2.

New Projected Completion Dates

Intel originally planned to bring its first fab online sooner, but in a recent message to employees, Naga Chandrasekaran, Intel’s Chief Global Operations Officer, outlined a new approach. The updated timeline is:

  • Mod 1 construction is expected to be completed in 2030, with operations beginning between 2030 and 2031.

  • Mod 2 construction is slated for completion in 2031, with operations starting in 2032.

This shift allows Intel to align production with business needs and market demand while maintaining financial flexibility. If demand rises, they have the ability to accelerate construction and move up operational timelines.

A Long-Term Commitment to Ohio

Intel remains fully committed to its Ohio investment, emphasizing that this timeline adjustment doesn’t change the company’s vision for the site. Hiring has already begun, with Ohio-based employees training at Intel’s facilities in Arizona, New Mexico, and Oregon. The company will continue scaling its workforce as production nears.

Intel’s expansion in Ohio is part of a larger strategy to strengthen U.S. semiconductor manufacturing. The company has received strong support from state and local leaders, including Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, JobsOhio, and various city and county officials.

What’s Next?

While construction will proceed at a slower pace, Intel is keeping its options open to accelerate the timeline if needed. In the meantime, Ohio One will continue shaping the state’s future as a hub for advanced manufacturing, bringing long-term economic growth and job opportunities.
